We recommend to you an exhibition PRINCIPLE OF INVERSION which includes works of our photography lecturers, among others, and opens on 24, April in the exhibition space of the Łódź Fabryczna Station.
PRINCIPLE OF INVERSION
An inter-university exhibition of visual works.
Exhibition duration: 24.04.2024 - 26.05.2024

Inversion in the general sense means the reversal of proportions, order and characteristics. This term illustrates the change of existing values into opposites, which gives them a character and a meaning different from the original one. Inversion occurs in many areas of science, from sciences to genetics and medicine. It is also related to the meaning space of sentences in which the order of words is changed, i.e. the syntax of the sentence is changed.
Applying inversion to visual arts may mean applying the principle of replacing elements which were originally intended to create a uniform and easily understandable form with new ones and reversing their order. Replacing selected elements to create visual works, i.e. those included in a concept of work based on the construction of opposites, may not only bring new formal solutions to the works but also a content layer opposite to the associative one, which will give the whole thing new content and a different character.
Thanks to the principle of inversion, a dialogue will be created regarding formal and content relationships, which will determine whether the works selected for the exhibition belong to the area of the title inversion. The principle of adding, replacing and changing the order of components of works applies to both content and form, which is why the works that make up the entire "Principle of Inversion" exhibition are diverse since they include photographs, collages, graphics and objects.
The exhibition includes works created in various media to show the widest possible spectrum of the use of changes in meaning defined by works relating to the principle of inversion. Some of the works presented at the exhibition are clearly of a critical nature. We will also find here works whose essence is the play of the elements from which they were created because their arrangement is intended to illustrate compositional and spatial changes and modifications in the area of the format in which they are presented.
