No other film has shaken the audience of the Film Club that much as Bartosz M. Kowalski’s „Plac zabaw” which opened A. Munk Competition and evoked a vivid discussion afterwards.

The film "Plac Zabaw" is nominated for the Munk Prize in two categories: Best Direction (Bartosz M. Kowalski) and Best Photography (Mateusz Skalski). After the screening the film-makers – Bartosz M. Kowalski, Mirella Zaradkiewicz (a production manager and film’s producer) and Dariusz Pietrykowski (film’s producer) talked with the audience about this “most horrific social horror”.

- I’ve seen a lot in my life and thought there is little that can shock me. A story which happened in Great Britain in the 90ties made me interested in the subject of psychopathic behaviour in children, evil behaviour for no reason which comes from nowhere and doesn’t make any sense. – said Bartosz M. Kowalski.

The film had already caused a stir many times, for example, among film critics during the International Film Festival in San Sebastian, which was the film’s premiere. Spanish audience called it the most horrific social horror. Being inspired by films of Gus van Sant and Michael Haneke, Bartosz M. Kowalski tells us a story of teenagers from a small town who are about to finish primary school. An innocent looking meeting of the three characters leads to a terrifying end.
The minors acting in the film were under constant supervision of psychologists and pedagogues. - I do not worry about my young actors. From the start they were under constant supervision of specialists. First of all we explained to them the rules of film-making. They were totally aware of the fictitious character of the story and did not in any way identify themselves with the protagonists. Besides, they got to like each other and they supported each other in their film roles. – said the director.

After the screening the audience would ask many questions, some concerning the process of film-making as such raised by film school students and others concerning director’s motifs in the choice of the subject – senseless evil born in the heads of children whom you might expect to be the most innocent.

The next film to be screened at the Munk Competition is Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s film „Córki dancingu” (Best Direction category); the next film to be screened on 8 Nov. is Marcin Kamiński’s „Kosmos” shot by Wojtek Rytel (nomination in both categories: Best Direction and Best Photography), after the screening - a meeting with the director; On 10 Nov. (Thursday), Wojciech Kasperski, the director of the film „Na granicy”, will be the guest of the Film Club and will meet the audience after the screening. (Best Direction nomination)
