Martin Scorsese remembers his visit at the Lodz Film School while introducing the screenings of Polish classic films in the United States and Canada this February.
21 Polish
films chosen by Martin Scorsese will be screening in the USA and Canada starting this February. Most
of the films were made by the Lodz Film School graduates and lecturers, amongst
them: Andrzej Munk "Eroica", Aleksander Ford "Krzyżacy"(Teutonic
Knights), Andrzej Wajda "Popiół i diament"(Ashes and Diamonds),
"Niewinni czarodzieje"(Innocent Sorcerers), "Ziemia
obiecana"(The Promised Land), "Wesele"(The Wedding) and
"Człowiek z żelaza"(Man of Iron), Krzysztof Zanussi
"Iluminacja"(The Illumination) , "Barwy ochronne"(Camouflage)
and "Constans"(The Constant Factor), Janusz Morgenstern "Trzeba
zabić tę miłość"(We Have to Kill this Love), Krzysztof Kieślowski "Przypadek"(Blind
Chance) and "Krótki film o zabijaniu"(A Short Film about Killing), Wojciech
Has "Rękopis znaleziony w Saragossie"(Manuscript Found in Saragossa)
and "Sanatorium pod klepsydrą"(Hour-glass Sanatorium), Jerzy
Kawalerowicz "Pociąg"(The Train), "Matka Joanna od
Aniołów"(Mother Joan of the Angels) and "Austeria".
The premiere screening, whose curator is Mr Scorsese – has been scheduled for February, 5th at the Film Society of the Lincoln Center in New York.
Introducing the screenings Martin Scorsese is remembering his visit at the Lodz Film School in 2011 when he was granted the school’s degree of doctor honoris causa and explains why he is so fond of Polish cinema:
