We’ve been picturing the world for 75 years! Join us to meet the filmmakers, see their films in the Main Competition as well as their student films. We invite you to a special show & meeting in Gdynia

They took their first steps in filmmaking here in Targowa Street.
The Lodz Film School is not only an address at Targowa Street, but also a 'genius loci' - the sum of experiences, thoughts, emotions, ideas, dreams, and creative struggles which were accompanied by fears and joys, ups and downs of people who have been and still are part of the School. Today you will see their names next to the films in the Main Competition and also on a list of their student films to be presented in a special screening; the films which revealed their talent and directorial style as early as during their studies.

We invite you to screenings of student films from the Lodz Film School as part of its 75th anniversary.

21, September, at 10:00, Teatr Muzyczny – Nowa Scena

Later that day, at 4 p.m., we invite invitation holders to the Mercure Gdynia Centrum Hotel where at the Tango Hall there will be a jubilee reception.

THE HOUSE FOR JULIA,
direction: Sebastian Buttny (2001)
Today, for the first time, Julia is about to see the cabin in the forest that her husband bought for the family. Joyfully and excitedly, she buys gifts: a dress for herself, a beautiful sweater for her husband, and a blouse for her friend. She only forgets about a gift for her son, Staś. Unfortunately, all the happiness is to disappear on this day as well. She is being bothered by silent calls from a mysterious taxi driver who is following her and tormented by the suspicion that her husband and her friend are having an affair. All evil will focus around Julia and she will never reach her cabin in the forest.

THE EGG,
direction: Dorota Kędzierzawska (1982)
The film is about the relationship between two kids, a brother and sister, as well as their loneliness and need for warmth.

THE END,
direction: Klaudiusz Chrostowski
Two sisters and two different attitudes towards the loss of their mother. Magda and Basia come to their mother's house to organize a funeral and clean the house. Cold and rational Magda does not understand her emotional older sister…

A MAN THING,
direction: Sławomir Fabicki (2001)
13-year-old Bartek lives in a dingy, gloomy district of Łódź. The family of four lives on what the mother earns, who makes plastic dolls on her own. An unemployed, frustrated father, a former footballer, stays in bed all morning until his wife sends him to the unemployed agency in the hope that he will finally get a job. The man compensates for his failure in life by abusing his son, whom he hits with a metal pipe for the slightest offense or teacher’s complaint in his son’s student book. The boy carefully hides this fact from those around him. Bartek also has a younger brother, but his only friend is Bukiet, a mongrel who lives in an animal shelter.

RAVENS AND CROWS WILL PECK US TO PIECES,
direction: Jan Holoubek (2002)
The film is based on the short story of the same title by Stefan Żeromski. It’s 1863, the end of the January Uprising against the Russians, its collapse phase. One of the last insurgents, Andrzej Winrych, smuggles weapons under the guise of a peasant. However, he is noticed by a Russian patrol. A Polish peasant is a witness to the unfolding tragedy.

MÖBIUS BEND,
direction: Łukasz Karwowski (1988)
The film is based on an original story. “I have been moving forward for many days. As I calculated, I travel about two thousand kilometres during the day and night. The train I am on is moving at a constant speed in a direction that is completely unknown to me. I've been wandering along the train for a long time and haven't met anyone yet. Sometimes I come across abandoned food. Most often, these are old cheese rolls. On average, every thirtieth carriage has water. Thanks to this, I have not yet died of hunger and thirst. The train is dirty and abandoned as if in a hurry. I often find luggage, umbrellas and coats left behind.”

FROM THE LIFE OF SCARECROWS,
direction: Grzegorz Dębowski (2012)
Once upon a time... in a certain distant land called Poland, there lived Grażyna, a woman who didn't want to grow up. She had a mother, father and sister. That evil sister. They all lived in one house with her sister's husband and their children. Grażyna's life was filled with dreams, playing with Marysia, her niece, and tending the field of scarecrows that she had created herself. Each of the scarecrows had its own story. Each of them dreamed of something. But the only person who understood them was Grażyna. She spent time with them and talked to them. For many years, she lived with the scarecrows, a little apart from everyone. And then, one day, something happened that drew the attention of millions of people to Grażyna... The film was inspired by a real event and the fairy tales of Hans Christian Anderson.
