When in Łódź, visiting the School is a must! Ambassadors from several countries visiting Lodz on the occasion of the Ambassadors' Gala closing the LOCOMOTIVE TO ŁÓDŹ project were our guests at School.
It was an honour and joy for us to host diplomats from several countries at our school. The Ambassadors' Gala summed up the "Locomotive to Łódź" project initiated by the Culture Department of the City of Łódź Council. In June this year, ambassadors from 17 countries to Poland read "The Locomotive" by Julian Tuwim to the children of Łódź, in Polish and their native language. The poem by a poet associated with Łódź was a challenge that the ambassadors coped with perfectly. Today, they were awarded the Locomotive statuette for their involvement in the implementation of this project. Milenia Fiedler also received a Special Award from Marek Brzeziński, Ambassador of the United States.
The guests of the Gala, as well as the guests of the School, were: Mark Brzezinski, Ambassador of the United States; Catherine Godin, Ambassador of Canada; Břetislav Dančák, Ambassador of the Czech Republic; Shanon S. N. Wu, Ambassador of Taiwan; Tadeusz Kaczor, Honorary Consul General of Hungary in Łódź, representing J.E. Orsolya Zsuzsanna Kovács, Hungarian Ambassador to Poland; Lorenz Barth, Cultural Attaché of the German Embassy; Mikael Benthe, Economic Promotion Counsellor of the Embassy of Sweden; Audelin Chappuis, Councillor for Cultural Cooperation and Director of the French Institute in Poland; Nopasi Niyamabha, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Thailand, as well as Krzysztof Skotnicki, Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic, and Alicja Bień, Honorary Consul of the French Republic.
On behalf of the School, the Gala was hosted by Milenia Fiedler, Rector of our School. “It is an extraordinary pleasure to be here today, with you, such distinguished guests,” said Milenia Fiedler. “I would like to thank all the Ambassadors for their creativity and unique interpretations of the poem. I think it's a wonderful gift that touches our hearts and brings a smile to our faces.” The host of the Ambassadors' Gala on behalf of the City of Łódź was Hanna Zdanowska, the President of Łódź, accompanied by: Adam Pustelnik, First Vice-President of the City and Małgorzata Moskwa-Wodnicka, Vice-President of the City. “Thanks to your commitment and time, we find ourselves in a slightly different moment. Thanks to you, we showed a fantastic poem by a poet associated with Łódź, a poet whom we all love, especially the youngest, not only we Poles, but also representatives of various nations around the world. For this, I would like to thank you with all my heart,” said the President of Łódź.
The closing gala of the project related to "The Locomotive" was an opportunity to familiarize the guests with the specifics of our School. They took a look behind the scenes of our classes and also got involved in an acting workshop. The students of the Acting Department prepared an interpretation of "Bird Radio" by Julian Tuwim. At the beginning, the audience turned into active participants, joining in the linguistic battles which Julian Tuwim posed in his work.
The Ambassadors' Gala was musically honoured by the performance of Wojciech Niedziółka, the highest-ranked Pole in the 16th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poznań, as well as a finalist of the "International LOUIS SPOHR Competition for Young Violinists" competition in Weimar.
