This is a course for good, young cinema and good meetings with you. So here we go this year. Film Review of the Lodz Film School for the 17th time. 22-23 March, ILUZJON Cinema in Warsaw. See you there
From Łódź we go straight to the ILUZJON Cinema in Warsaw because this proven place and audience promise a valuable film encounter. The latest films by students of the Lodz Film School will be screened - fiction films, documentaries and animated films, produced in 2023, appreciated at the most important Polish and international festivals. You must know that last year, our films were shown at over 280 festivals, from which we returned with over 110 awards. Now, we want to show them to you.
The programme of the 17th ŁpW includes, among others: CROCODILE, dir. Dawid Bodzak, shown in the prestigious SEMAINE DE LA CRITIQUE section of the Cannes festival; WARSZAWA, HOLANDIA, dir. Ming-Wei Chiang, awarded the Best Short Film Award at the FPFF in Gdynia; BE SOMEBODY, dir. Michał Toczek, whose awards include, among others: "Golden Hobby-Horse" of Krakow Film Festival and "Jantar" Award from Młodzi i Film Koszalin Festival; a documentary A HANDFUL OF DUST, dir. Izabela Zubrycka, which premiered during the Millennium Docs Against Gravity, presented in the San Sebastian IFF competition, Ji.hlava and FIPADOC programmes, as well as the animated film THERE ARE PEOPLE IN THE FOREST by Szymon Ruczyński, recognized as the Best European Film at the Krakow Film Festival, shown in competitions of IFF Leeds and PÖFF Shorts in Tallinn and in the Thessaloniki IDF programme.
In total, we will present you 4 film blocks, a total of over 400 minutes on the big screen!
Our opening film this year will be NEXT TO NOTHING, directed by Grzegorz Dębowski, our directing graduate, who was awarded the Eagle Award of the Polish Film Academy in the "Discovery of the Year" category and 6 awards during the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia, including awards for Best Directorial Debut, Best Screenplay and Best Film in the "Visions Apart" category. After the screening, we invite you to a meeting with the filmmakers: director Grzegorz Dębowski, casting director and production manager Agnieszka Skalska, and editor Anna Garncarczyk, our editing graduate.
The "Łódzią po Wiśle" programme also includes two special shows. The first one will be the screening of AN ORANGE FROM JAFFA, directed by Mohammed Almughanni, a graduate of the Film and Television Directing Department of our School. The film received the Grand Prix of the last Clermont-Ferrand IFF.Its producers are: Patryk Sielecki (Lumisenta Foundation), Marcin Malatyński (INDEKS Film Studio) and David Frenkel (Synecdoche).
The film was made in cooperation with Gaza Films, War on Screen, Centre National de la Cinematographie, Arte France and Palestinian Cultural Fund.
The second proposal is ROOM 404, dir. Elysa Wendi and Lee Wai Shing, presented in the Forum Expanded section of the last Berlinale, produced in the Film Essay Studio of the Visual Narrative Laboratory vnLab, which has been operating at our School with great success for 5 years. After the screenings, we invite you to meetings.
We hope that on 22 and 23 March, we will meet in the same film port, at the ILUZJON Cinema. We are waiting for your watchful glances, deep reflections and constructive criticism. We are waiting for representatives of the film industry, critics and journalists. For the audience of our films.
