On 6 & 7 April, we invite you to the Studyjny Theatre for the premiere of our acting students’ diploma show, FESTEN, directed by Remigiusz Brzyk.
FESTEN - DIPLOMA PLAY BY OUR ACTING STUDENTS OF THE FACULTY IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024
Dogma '95 is a manifesto announced three decades ago by Danish directors who were convinced that the art of film should be restored to its ascetic form, thanks to which their works would become closer to real life and appeal more strongly to the viewer. One of the creators with such beliefs was Thomas Vinterberg, who in 1998, made Festen based on a screenplay written with Mogens Rukov. The film, which shows a family celebration, filmed in an almost amateur style, is also a shocking record of finding the truth behind the false façade of bourgeois life. The creators of the diploma play, reaching for this screenplay, feel that the story written in it is an accurate metaphor for a society living lies. To create an appropriate counterpoint to it, they read it not in the convention of psychodrama, but rather in the form of a black comedy. In the show, they decided to use the existing theatre space and the clash of live and film sets to better highlight the contrast between theatricality, which was often used to hide social problems, and the truth of life, which they dared to face. The young actors and actresses who are working on this show are also young citizens, aware of the challenges they face. They are ready to break the conspiracy of silence. They have the courage to expose what society tries to erase.
