As part of the SpinOFF Fotofestiwal, we recommend an exhibition ON BEAUTY by our photography student Aleksandra Mrówczyńska. We invite you to Niebostan, on 9, June, at 2:00 p.m.
What is beauty to you? How do you respond to this question?
From the author:
Inspired by Sophie Call's work, I would like to highlight the importance of personal perspective, through the involvement of project participants and combining photography with written text. I am interested in the role of decision-making in creative work, which resulted in the performative nature of the project. Searching for the definition of beauty in various aspects of reality; as a feeling of joy which brings a smile to the face when being with loved ones, as an elusive impression, the purpose of which is so often art, as something simple, yet sublime and incomprehensible. In view of this, it is easy to conclude that beauty is one of the most difficult ideas to define. Beauty, which is probably most dependent on perspective, and one could even say that it is Perspective which creates Beauty. It is this perspective which is the subject of my project. I want to explore the meaning of this concept for others, asking them the question "What is beauty to you?"
Using an Instax instant camera, I take photographs of the people to whom I ask the above question to capture their spontaneous reaction to it. I try to capture the beauty that affects my own sensitivity, as if responding to my own question with a photograph. Then, I ask the project participants to indicate other people whose beauty is important to them. I want to present this project in Niebostan, seeing it as a place of social integration and building bonds. During the opening of the exhibition which presents the project completed so far, I would like to encourage the audience to continue it. They will have the opportunity to take their own photos with an Instax camera and present their concept of beauty using the people taking part in the event in Niebostan. The aim is to create a comprehensive map which will emphasize and define the meaning of beauty and goodness that surrounds us every day and encourage reflection and perhaps expressions of gratitude for these experiences.”
