A graduate of the Cinematography Department of our School, an outstanding cinematographer, aged 55, died tragically last night (10, June).
The news of the tragic death of Arkadiusz Tomiak has come as a terrible shock for us. We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of our graduate.
Arkadiusz Tomiak studied cinematography at the Cinematography and TV Production Department of our School. He graduated in 1995.
He has an extremely rich and diverse filmography. He worked as DOP on, among others, such films as "Keep Away from the Window" (Daleko od okna) (2000) by Jan Jakub Kolski, "White Borsch" (Żurek) (2003) by Ryszard Brylski, "Symmetry" (Symetria) (2003) by Konrad Niewolski, "Zero" (2009) by Paweł Borowski, "Enen" (2009) by Feliks Falk, "Daas" (2011) by Adrian Panek, "Manhunt" (Obława) (2012) by Marcin Krzyształowicz, "The Girl from the Wardrobe" (Dziewczyna z szafy) (2012) by Bodo Kox, "Black Mercedes" (Czarny mercedes) (2019) by Janusz Majewski, and "Red Poppies" (Czerwone maki) (2024) by Krzysztof Łukaszewicz. He was also a cinematographer for documentaries and television shows.
He was awarded many times for his work. He was a three-time winner of the Polish Society of Cinematographers (PSC) Award and a two-time winner of the Polish Film Award "Eagle". He was a member of the Polish Society of Cinematographers (PSC), and from 2015-2019, he chaired this organization. He was also a member of the European Film Academy. His death is a huge loss for all of us and for the entire world of Polish cinema.
