"A city of conflicting emotions, hidden rivers, a city of machines and a thousand chimneys". The opening of those stories of Lodz starts 29, August, at 7.00 PM, in Warsaw.
Starting August 29, 2024, the Fort Institute of Photography in Warsaw will host an exhibition titled "Urban Legends", a photographic project created from the phantasmagorias of second- and fourth-year students from the Photography Department at the Film School in Łódź (members of the CECH Collective).
The depicted stories draw directly from examples of 20th-century avant-garde, only to veer into afterimages of horror films. The city of Łódź serves as the foundation for these narratives, with gossip, memes, and fake news as inspiration—all connected by the world of endless renovation and construction work.
The project is the result of collaboration between the studios of Szymon Kobusiński and Bownik, lecturers at PWSFTviT.
"A city of conflicting emotions, hidden rivers, a city of machines and a thousand chimneys. A city of stories drifting between truth and myth... Overheard or recorded... It doesn’t matter. Before you are tales that absorb this world. Our fantasies, dreams, and nightmares are interwoven with observations of everyday life. Together, we experience this city, navigate its nooks and crannies, and breathe in its unconventional beauty. We experiment. In our project, roles disappear. There are no specific names signed under the lighting, set design, or framing. Thus, there is no authorship. There is only “Us” — a fusion of different sensitivities, often extreme personalities, and our collective process. We resonate, reflect off each other, and experience a river of creative energy.
We found ourselves here — at a similar moment, with similar goals and desires.
But maybe this place found us?"
