The 14th Photography Festival in Żory #Radośćżycia, czyli życie w różnych aspektach (Joy of life, or life in various aspects) runs from 2, September to 31, October.

The exhibition is accompanied by the award-winning publication by Izabela Łapińska entitled SKÓRA / SKIN, PWSFTvT Publishing House, Łódź 2023.

The series of photographs entitled "Skin" touches on the concept of tissue, living or dead matter, characterized by a peculiar structure and form of existence. Particularly interesting seem to be the abnormalities of a formal and biological nature. The process of changes occurring in the structure of tissue. The project aims to make a thorough photographic observation of natural phenomena which are often unconscious, unnoticed, and sometimes even consciously omitted. The project entitled "Skin" touches on the current issue of excluding the truth about the transience, destruction and degradation of the body from public debate. The skin does not like time, which dries and wrinkles it. It carves it deeply, ruthlessly recording the experience of life, feelings, thoughts and events. Wounded, it secretes the warm and sticky red of existence.

"The exhibition to which I am pleased to invite you is a testimony to the world seen through the eyes of a boy. I took photos between my eleventh and sixteenth birthdays with simple Smena and Zenit cameras. Back then - being young and knowing next to nothing about photography and with random technical skills, I was only close to my peers. Guided by a certain kind of unconscious maturity, I managed to catch moments that were carefree and full of joy and spontaneity. Today, looking at these photographs, I see not only a record of my youthful years but also the need to reflect on eternal questions about dreams, aspirations and the need to face reality. Today, children's unpretentious and imaginative games contrast with the realities of life seen through the eyes of a mature man. Moments from a land of freedom and happiness often captured in a dynamic frame, honour my belief in the beauty of life. My nostalgic journey has undoubtedly a deeply personal aspect, but I hope that it can awaken memories and thus evoke universal reflections on the passing of time and perhaps on unfulfilled childhood dreams."
