The American Film Academy announced the shortlists which include two films by our directing graduates: THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE directed by M. von Horn & AN ORANGE FROM JAFFA directed by M. Almughanni
Today is definitely a lucky day. On the Oscar shortlist we see 2 titles that have a chance of being nominated for an Oscar!
Let’s sum up the facts:
* THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE *
The film was directed by Magnus von Horn, our graduate and current lecturer at the Directing Department. The film's producer is a graduate of film production and our lecturer - Mariusz Włodarski from Lava Films, the production manager is a graduate of the Film Art Organization Department - Luiza Skrzek, the cinematographer a graduate of the Cinematography Department - Michał Dymek. The film was edited by a graduate of the Editing Department - Agnieszka Glińska, and the film’s script consultant was our lecturer at the Directing Department - Andrzej Mellin.
So far, the film has:
* been nominated for a Golden Globe,
* received the Camerimage Golden Frog Award for best cinematography for Michał Dymek,
* received European Film Awards (for production design and music).
The film is a Danish-Polish-Swedish co-production and the Danish candidate for an Oscar.
* AN ORANGE FROM JAFFA *
The film was directed by Mohammed Almughanni, our graduate of directing. The film was produced by Patryk Sielecki (Fundacja Lumisenta), Marcin Malatyński (Studio Filmowe INDEKS) and David Frenkel (Synecdoche). The film was shot by our cinematography graduate, Maciej Edelman and edited by Natalia Jacheć, a graduate and current lecturer in editing.
So far, the film has won:
* INTERNATIONAL GRAND PRIX Clermont-Ferrand ISFF 2024,
* Award for the best European film at the 64th Krakow Film Festival,
* Main Prize in the Louis Le Prince competition at the Leeds International Film Festival.
The film is a Polish-French co-production (INDEKS Film Studio, Lumisenta Foundation and Synecdoche) and was made in cooperation with: Gaza Films, War on Screen, Centre National de la Cinematographie, Arte France and Palestinian Cultural Fund.
Nominations will be announced on 17, January, 2025.
The Oscars will be held on 2, March, 2025.
