The echoes of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the birth of W. J. Has are still resonating… We invite you to the exhibition of photography students’ works at the New Media Centre Building.
The exhibition presents works by first-year photography students made under the artistic supervision of Dr. Agata Vera Schiller and by students from other years who were invited to participate in a dialogue with the cinema of Wojciech Jerzy Has.
In their works, the young artists explore Has's characteristic suspension between reality and phantasmagoria, carefully examining the boundaries of perception and memory. Drawing on the rich symbolism and unusual aesthetics of films such as "Pętla", "Jak być kochaną" and "Sanatorium pod Klepsydrą", they created photographic interpretations which reflect the labyrinthine narrative structure of the master of Polish cinema.
The exhibition shows how the young generation interestingly and insightfully transfers Has's fascination with the passage of time and the interpenetration of the past and the present into the language of the photographic image, using for this purpose, among others, the motifs of mirror reflections and fragmentation of space. A modernized representation of the poetics of film dreams, filtered through the individual sensitivity of students, their fresh and still developing perspective on art, is undoubtedly an interesting field of exploration. In these works, we will find a subtly dreamlike atmosphere which creates a visual bridge between film and photography. We will encounter surreal images pulsating with internal movement and temporal tension so characteristic of Has's films.
We invite you to a journey through these photographic images which, like the films of Wojciech Jerzy Has, provoke reflection on the essence of time, memory and the condition of human existence, thus showing that creators, regardless of the medium and the times in which they live, have one thing in common – the desire to understand and tame the world around them.
Artists: Maja Bernatek, Patrycja Kęcińska, Kacper Cichy, Paulina Katusza, Wanesa Kidacka, Małgorzata Lis, Zofia Liszewska, Grzegorz Piotrowski, Maja Radecka, Agata Vera Schiller, Jan Suchorab, Gabriela Zając, Jan Zimnoch
