Dreams of being a student at the Lodz Film School begin here - at the first test of strength, the first presentation of one's own talent. On 5 and 6, April, we had the Open Days at the Acting Dept.

The consultations were led by teachers of the Acting Department, with participation of first and second year students and candidates for acting studies in the academic year 2025/2026.

During the Open Days, the Department lecturers presented key workshops reflecting the course of acting studies, such as: Voice Impostation, Prose, Poem, Pronunciation, and Elementary Acting Tasks.

Candidates could also see shows by first and second year acting students. After the shows, they could have a chat with the students.

We talk with the Dean of the Acting Dept. Prof. Piotr Seweryński, about past consultations and the upcoming EXAM.

* Why are consultations so important to you?

Dean: They are important not only from my point of view, but above all they are important for candidates, because - this is a common goal of both parties - consultations give a chance to get used to the space of the faculty, to have direct contact with lecturers and students and gain information about what is happening at the School directly from people who work and study here. They are also important because they allow you to gain very valuable information about the specifics of acting studies - the requirements set by the examination board, the selection of material and how to think about preparations and how to conduct the whole process before and during the entrance exams.

* There are many candidates but only 18 places in the first year of acting studies in the academic year 2025/2026. How can we prepare candidates for the idea that not all of them will become students?

Dean: This is one of the first attempts in such circumstances, related to studies. This is a very individual matter, but the consultations also serve to relieve the candidates of tension, to the extent possible. We want to tell them that if they believe in themselves, trust themselves, how they think and what they feel, and try to express themselves through the prepared texts, this will be the best thing they can do. I have the impression, judging by the reactions I have encountered, that this is something that removes the veneer of a certain inaccessibility and superiority of the Lodz Film School. This is one of the goals of our meetings with candidates.

* Dean, why is it worth becoming an actor nowadays?

Dean: This is a profession and a way of life that can give joy. If we are convinced of what we do, we want to do it, and at the end of this sometimes difficult and demanding work there is pleasure on stage from experiencing another life - this answers the question of why it is worth pursuing the profession of an actor.

There are 18 places available for the first year of acting studies; there are still free consultation dates available – registration is required!
