"Ida" will compete for American Academy Awards in two categories : best foreign language film and best cinematography – nomination for Ryszard Lenczewski and Lukasz Zal.

Today the Oscar nominations were announced. The title of Paweł Pawlikowski’s film ‘Ida’ was heard twice and the film was nominated in two categories: Best Foreign Langauage Film and Best Cinematography. This is a great distinction for Lodz Film School cinematography graduates, Łukasz Żal and Ryszard Lenczewski, (the latter is also a professor at the Lodz Film School).

The American Film Academy Awards will be announced on 22 February.

Best Foreign Language Film nominations:
1. "Ida" by Paweł Pawlikowski, Poland
2. "Leviathan" by Andriej Zwiagincew, Russia
3. "Wild Tales" by Damián Szifrón, Argentina/Spain
4. "Tangerines" by Zaza Urushadze, Georgia/Esthonia
5. "Timbuktu" by Abderrahmane Sissako, France/Mauritania

Best Cinematography nominees:
1. Łukasz Żal & Ryszard Lenczewski for "Ida"
2. Emmanuel Lubezki for "Birdman"
3. Robert D. Yeoman for "Grand Budapest Hotel"
4. Dick Pope for "Mr. Turner"
5. Roger Deakins for "Unbroken"
