The
three year full-time BA course and two year full-time MA course in
screenwriting are run at the Directing Department and are addressed
at those who already know that screenwriting is their life vocation.
During the first three years, i.e. BA studies, they learn the skill
of screenwriting and what it really involves. It is a time to find
out about oneself and build one’s identity as a screenwriter. The
next two years of the MA studies, are also available to individuals
from outside the school with extensive professional screenwriting
experience.
The essence of our teaching program is practice; writing,
writing and writing – almost like an everyday chore; from short
films to television series, and full-length features. The practice of
writing is supported by knowledge of screenwriting skills,
dramaturgy, narrative, psychology and film history. Part of the
screenwriting courses teaching program is closely connected to the
film direction curriculum.
The future screenwriters gain practical
knowledge about film as a means of expression and their scripts for
short fiction films can be used by direction students.
Our
screenwriting graduates should have sufficient knowledge and
experience to start independent individual work for film and
television.
