"Long live the Lodz Film School for many years!" With these wishes, Rafał Syska addressed those present at the ceremony, thus expressing his gratitude for the culmination of this initiative. "Let it be an enclave of freedom because we know that we are hostages of various ideologies and, above all, we must fight not to succumb to excessive self-censorship, which is the worst form of censorship."
President Adam Pustelnik emphasized the essence of the entire project:
"Without the institution which will be honoured with this Star today, there would be no film Łódź and there would be no heritage that we cherish so much. (…) This is the best possible way in which Łódź could promote itself and at the same time, a huge source of pride for this city, one of the foundations of its amazing history. A very important element of the city's identity. I wanted to say that I am very happy that today we will be unveiling the Star of the Film School, because - to quote a classic – it has simply deserved it!” said the President proudly. "Congratulations to everyone on creating this beautiful project over the years."
In his speech, Janusz Tylman, the initiator of the project, thanked the co-founders of the Film School Star: Adam Herbich and Damian Kuliński, Presidents of HTF Eco Solutions; Piotr Dzięcioł, film producer; Jędrzej Sabliński, President of DI Factory; Wanda Ziembicka-Has and graduates: Szymon Kobusiński, Piotr Kukla, Tomasz Albin, Tomasz Kona, Krzysztof Gawrysiak, Hubert Humka and Joanna Tylman.
Then he added:
"Known everywhere in the world! Believe me, I have spent over 60 years at this School. Wherever I went - whether it was America, South America, or China - our graduates were there. (…) Today is an important day, St. Nicholas Day, Therefore, I would like to thank all Santa Clauses who contributed to having the School Star unveiled today."
Rector Milenia Fiedler thanked the founders and Prof. Janusz Tylman who having spent so many years at the school is not only its member but has also contributed to its present position.
"It's not really about the institution. The Film School is a community that transcends time and geography. It is people such as students, lecturers and employees, who have created the School for years. There is a special bond between us of spirit, thought and ideas which we share within the walls of Targowa Street. This is what defines the School and stays forever. (…) This Star is for all these people, " emphasized the Rector.
The creation and grounding of the Star was supported by its founders, while the Walk of Fame in Piotrkowska Street is financed as part of the Łódź - Unesco City of Film project.
On 6, December 2023, the Star of the Lodz Film School was symbolically unveiled. Due to weather conditions, it was not possible to lay it, which will take place at a later date.
After the ceremony, the Film School community and its friends went to a meeting organized at the MeMo Mediateka.
Thank you – for your presence and wishes! For the community which we have been creating and feeling for 75 years and which we symbolically honoured with the Star yesterday. Let it, like the North Star, guide the upcoming generations of filmmakers and support the people of Łódź in rooting the city's film identity.
