Cezi Studniak: “We currently live in times of unbridled acceleration and unlimited possibilities. At the same time, we are quite unruly about the concept of freedom. Enslavement has reached a completely different dimension and we are preparing it for ourselves. We give our consent for pathology to enter our lives being a symptom of possibility. Acts of violence have become entertainment, humiliation is an element of social engineering, and morality is an awkward concept, to say the least. Humanity is so overstimulated that it cannot reasonably define what truth is, even personal truth. We have lost our point of reference. Everything is equally attractive and equally irrelevant. Relevance is devalued with another click of the spacebar. Even a real threat like war is very quickly and effectively drowned out by the absolute decibels of irrelevant information. The system of values has definitely disintegrated and is no longer needed. Civilization, a symbol of the power of human imagination, has sterilized our sensitivity.
Ironically, our development is our destruction…
“Cinders”, Janusz Głowacki's study of enslavement, lack of prospects and unfulfilled dreams of a decent life embedded in the roughness of deep communism, is an ever-relevant fable about the need for compassion, kindness, tolerance, respect, happiness and freedom. Without these very basic values, we will quickly perish in this vale of tears.”
