Publishing premiere! Our publishing house has published a book by Adrian Cieszkowski, a graduate of the Film Art Organization Dept. Its editor is Bronka Nowicka, a lecturer at the Directing Dept

Premiere of Adrian Cieszkowski's book - "DIFFERENT APPROACHES TO FILM EDUCATION on the examples of the Leon Schiller National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź and the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema do Instituto Politécnico in Lisbon".

"Adrian Cieszkowski looks at his own Alma Mater from a comparative perspective, comparing two models of film education – one in Łódź and the other in Lisbon. The author shows very precisely how different philosophical assumptions translate into specific organizational solutions. The individualistic model, which prevails at the Łódź school, focuses on educating artists-authors, while in Lisbon the emphasis is on cooperation and craft. These differences are reflected in the entire structure of studies – from the selection of subjects to the organization of film sets. The book shows how different models of education prepare students (or not) for the realities of the labour market. The Lisbon model seems to prepare them better to work in the film industry by emphasizing cooperation and understanding different roles in the film crew. The Łódź model, on the other hand, may better serve the education of outstanding creative individuals.

The author makes a bold systemic diagnosis, but does so with sensitivity and insight, portraying the complexity of the relationship between master and student in an art school. What is particularly valuable in this book is author’s ability to combine personal experience with analytical distance. Cieszkowski does not shy away from difficult questions about the future of film education, about the balance between tradition and modernity or between individualism and teamwork. His considerations are not only a valuable voice in the discussion on educating filmmakers, but also a well-written guide to the intricacies of two different teaching philosophies.

It is rare for such a young author to be able to write with such maturity and eloquence about issues fundamental to the future of cinema. I recommend this book to those who are considering film studies, teaching in art schools or simply show interest in the future of creative education. "
