This Thursday, we initiate the month of musicals at the Film Club screening "Córki dancingu”, which will be followed by a meeting with the director, A.Smoczyńska, editor, J.Kamiński and M.Lenarczyk.

Musical, a film genre which seems to have been neglected lately in the Polish cinema, is now becoming more popular. Agnieszka Smoczyńskiea’s film, which was recognized the best film debut at the last Gdynia Film Festival, will soon be screened at the Sundance Film Festival in the "World Film" section.

"Córki Dancingu" is a big city fairy-tale for adults. The film which breaks typical musical standards seems to have been inspired by such films as Jim Sharman’s "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", Bob Fosse’s "All that Jazz" and Lars von Trier’s "Dancer in the Dark".

The discussion after the screening will be devoted to such issues as the origins of the film idea which is the director’s variation on the times of Communist Poland, the role of the sound director in the film production in which sound and music play a crucial role, and finally the film editing which gives a special rhythm to the film inhancing the sound track.

The screening starts at 7 p.m.
